Stand Behind Every Claim.
When the department questions your airline credit, the answer has to be ticket by ticket. We keep a complete, defensible file every year, and when a query arrives, we prepare the replies and the evidence with your team.
Why It Matters
Airline credit is one of the most common items the department asks about, and one of the hardest to support years later.
Thousands of small tickets, dozens of airlines, invoices that live on airline portals rather than in your files, and travel agency reports that look like invoices but aren’t. When an officer asks you to support three years of airline credit, the evidence is usually scattered across agencies, plants and inboxes.
Without a complete file, credit that was perfectly valid can be disallowed simply because it can’t be shown, with interest and penalty on top. With one, most queries close quickly. Audit Support makes sure you always have that file, and that every reply is prepared by people who do nothing but airline GST.
What’s at Stake
An illustrative example of how a small evidence gap becomes a large cost.
| Illustrative company: 3 GSTINs, 3 years of airline credit | Without a complete file | With a complete file |
|---|---|---|
| Airline credit claimed over three years | ₹1.80 cr | ₹1.80 cr |
| Credit the company can show ticket by ticket | ₹1.26 cr | ₹1.74 cr |
| Credit at risk of disallowance | ₹54 L | ₹6 L, reversed voluntarily |
| Interest exposure on credit at risk (18% a year, about two years) | around ₹19 L | around ₹2 L |
| Exposure before any penalty | around ₹73 L | around ₹8 L |
Illustrative figures, not client data. Interest under section 50 applies to credit wrongly availed and utilised; penalty depends on the facts and the provision invoked.
When Airline Credit Gets Questioned
The routes by which airline credit usually comes under review. We prepare for all of them.
What Officers Usually Ask, and How We Answer
The queries we see most often on airline credit, what lies behind each one, and what goes into the reply.
| The query | What the officer is looking for | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Credit in GSTR-3B exceeds GSTR-2BSection 16(2)(aa) | Credit claimed on invoices the airline never reported against your GSTIN. | A ticket-level match of 3B to 2B, identifying timing differences, later amendments by airlines and any amount to reverse. |
| Place of supply and tax typeIGST versus CGST and SGST | Whether the airline charged the right tax for the journey and registration. | A written explanation per pattern of travel, supported by the invoices and the rules for passenger transport. |
| Invoices in another GSTIN’s name | Credit taken by one registration on invoices issued to another. | A mapping of each ticket to the traveller and the registration that bore the cost, with airline corrections where obtained. |
| Business use and eligibilitySections 16 and 17 | Whether the travel was for business, and whether any credit is restricted. | Travel policy, traveller and purpose evidence, and a clear list of any tickets reversed voluntarily. |
| Credit notes not reversedSection 34 and IMS | Credit still claimed on tickets that were cancelled or changed. | A credit note trace to the original tickets, with reversals already made and any balance to adjust. |
| Time limitSection 16(4) | Credit claimed after 30 November of the following year. | The period in which each invoice was claimed, matched to its financial year and the applicable cut-off. |
The Same Query, Two Ways
What answering a notice looks like with and without a file prepared in advance.
| Without Audit Support | With Audit Support | |
|---|---|---|
| Finding the invoices | Weeks of requests to agencies, plants and airlines | Already indexed by ticket, for every year documented |
| Matching to returns | Built under deadline pressure, often by sampling | Every ticket already matched to GSTR-2B and GSTR-3B |
| Problem tickets | Discovered by the officer | Found and resolved by us first |
| The reply | General, because the detail isn’t available | Specific, ticket by ticket, with schedules |
| Your team’s time | Weeks, at the worst time of year | A briefing call and a sign-off |

Questions Finance Leaders Ask
Something else? Write to connect@tracarta.in.
Do you represent us before the department?
We prepare the replies, the schedules and the evidence file, and our specialist works alongside your authorised representative, usually your CA or legal counsel. The reply is always submitted with your approval.
How far back can you go?
As far as your records and the airline portals allow. Most airlines keep invoices available for several years; where an invoice is no longer available, we document the claim from GSTR-2B and your books.
What if some credit really is ineligible?
We tell you early and plainly. Reversing a small amount voluntarily, with the working, usually makes the rest of the claim far easier to defend.
We already have a notice. Is it too late?
No. Send it to us and we will assess it within three working days and agree a plan that meets the deadline.
How is this different from monthly reconciliation?
Monthly reconciliation makes sure you claim everything you’re owed. Audit Support makes sure you can defend what you’ve claimed. Clients on monthly reconciliation already have an up-to-date file; Audit Support is for companies that run airline GST themselves or with another adviser.
